Clinical research have shown that about one-third of the people who have had secondary syphilis go on to developing complication of late, or tertiary syphilis. This is where the bacteria will start to damage the heart, eyes, brain, nervous system, bones, joints, or almost any other part of the body.

The tertiary stage can last for years, or even for decades for some. Late syphilis can result in mental illness, blindness, other neurological problems, heart disease and could lead to death. |
