Hepatitis B is also common know as the hepatitis B virus (HBV). It is a virus that attacks the liver which can cause lifelong infection, cirrhosis (scarring) of the liver, liver cancer, liver failure and could also lead to death in some cases.
HBV is spread by blood or body fluids from an infected person to the body of a not infected person. Commonly, through unprotected sex, sharing of needles or from an infected mother to her newborn baby.

Common symptoms may include:
- yellow skin or yellowing of the whites of your eyes (jaundice)
- tiredness
- loss of appetite
- nausea
- abdominal discomfort

- dark urine
- clay-colored bowel
- movements joint pain
|
Currently, there are no medications available for recently attain acute hepatitis B infection, but vaccination is available for the prevention of such infection. There are also antiviral drugs available for the treatment of chronic hepatitis infections.
