Protection against Genital Herpes

If you know you are infected by the genital herpes, whether it is an active herpes episode, first episode or a repeated one it is best to avoid sexual contract until you have treated the virus.

To help to speed up the healing process and avoid the spreading of the infection to other areas of the body or to other people it is suggested that:

  • Keep that infected area clean and dry to prevent other infections from developing.
  • Avoid touching the lesion (sores).
  • Wash your hands thoroughly after each contact with the sores
  • Avoid any sexual contact from the time you first see or feel any symptoms until the lesion (sores) are completely healed. This means that the scab has fallen off and new skin has formed where the sore was.
If the lesion (sores) or any other symptoms persists it is advised that you see your healthcare provider or GP for advice.
